How to make major cold sore swelling go down?

I have always had cold sores since I was young and get them often. They can get pretty bad. I also get shingles. Yesterday a cold sore popped up, after being cold sore free for a day since last week, and it clustered. I woke up this morning to the left side of my bottom lip swollen to twice it's normal size. It is massive and painful. I can barely chew and I have a big event to go to in a week. Ive tried all the creams and nothing works. Ive also tried putting alchol on it, which works sometmes. Any info or tips on how to soothe/heal this would be great, Thanks!
